We’ve ensured there is something for everyone. Let’s see which mattifying moisturizer might become your favorite!

Quick summary

Before you buy: 5 Things to consider when purchasing a mattifying moisturizer

Before you decide to pick up a mattifying moisturizer, there are a few things to consider.

Matte moisturizers are created differently with different purposes in mind. No one moisturizer can have all the benefits, but they tend to have a dual or triple function.

Here are the key considerations you should make before you make your selection:

1. Skin type

Your skin type is very important when it comes to mattifying moisturizers. The function of these moisturizers is to leave you with a dry, matte finish to your skin.

If you have dry skin or a condition like atopic dermatitis, you may want to be careful about picking up one of these. And if you do, you must pick one up rich in essential oils that will hydrate and moisturize your skin.

Those with sensitive skin can experience a reaction from certain essential oils, honey, and egg yolks. People with oily and combination skin, on the other hand, do very well with mattifying moisturizers.

2. The matte effect

We understand that not everyone is a fan of dewy, shiny skin, which is why mattifying moisturizers are popular beyond those with the oily and combination skin types.

A mattifying moisturizer is a great option for someone who uses an oil-based formula for sunscreen, serum, or toner. The matte effect does tend to provide a finish that is smooth and without a shine. If that’s what you want, then you’ll enjoy a mattifying moisturizer as much as we do.

3. Acne

Mattifying moisturizers, while being hydrating, tend to soak up sebum or inhibit its production. This can clog some pores or feel like they are clogged. If you have hormonal acne or cystic acne, be very selective about the mattifying moisturizer you choose.

Try and select one that has is suitable for acne and breakouts, one that is lightweight and does not clog your pores. It should be a quick-absorbing formula.

4. Ingredients

In order to to bring out your internal shine, mattifying moisturizers tend to have ingredients that soak up extra oil. These include honey, egg yolks, essential oils, etc.

Before trying a mattifying moisturizer, we recommend considering the following factors that will influence the effectiveness of the moisturizer: Are you allergic to any of the ingredients listed? Have you tried these ingredients on your face before? Have you ever reacted to any of them? Do any of your other skincare products have similar products?

We highly recommend checking the ingredients for potential allergens and doing a patch test on a small, concealed section of skin (such as under your arm or on your shoulders) to make sure that you won’t have an allergic reaction to any ingredients you haven’t tried before. At the same time, you do not want to be using a serum or toner that also has these ingredients as this would be too dehydrating for your skin.

5. Additional skin issues

Mattifying moisturizers tend to work wonders for other skin needs, too. They can have anti-aging or antioxidant properties, while others even out the skin tone or reduce fine lines.

You want to select a formula that targets the skin issue you’re facing. So if you have redness or acne or have lost some skin elasticity, then you may want to pick a moisturizer that balances skin sebum while toning the skin at the same time. Make your moisturizer do the hard work it’s supposed to do!

The best mattifying moisturizer for:

Men and women of most skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.

Notable ingredients:

Jojoba. Calendula. Clary sage.

Overview:

ZELEN Life’s Moisturizer is an organic oil-based moisturizer formulated with jojoba, calendula, and clary sage.

Jojoba is a carrier oil with anti-aging properties that helps diminish fine lines and wrinkles. It accelerates the skin’s healing and regulates its natural oil (sebum), which helps to mattify the skin and control breakouts.

Studies have shown that certain jojoba oil compounds penetrate the skin and treat conditions such as acne and psoriasis. It is an emollient and I find that it softens and hydrates the skin without making it oily due to its similarity to the skin’s sebum. It is rich in anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, reducing pain, redness, and blemishes. [1]

Calendula contains a natural oil that nourishes the skin. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamins that protect from environmental stressors such as UV radiation. It is a natural antiseptic and thus assists in healing the skin faster.

Clary sage also assists in diminishing the effects of aging, giving a youthful and radiant look. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while also soothing the skin from irritation and reducing bacteria.

Lastly, its formulation is vegan, cruelty-free, and doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals such as parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, etc. This makes it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

This unique blend of ingredients creates a cream that is very lightweight in texture, is quickly absorbed, and doesn’t feel greasy and oily. I like this moisturizer because it makes my skin feel soft and supple after each application. Even though it is lightweight, it does a great job in keeping the skin hydrated the whole day.

What makes this moisturizer feel premium aside from its high-quality organic ingredients are its scent and bottle design.

It has a subtle citrusy & flowery aroma that left me wanting more every time I apply it. I find it calms my senses and stress levels every time I use it. Clary sage and geranium (which, are also included in their formulation) are very well-known plants for their aromatherapy and calming qualities. Additionally, the fact that its aroma comes purely from its ingredients and is not artificially derived makes it suitable for people who are sensitive to artificial fragrances

As for the packaging and bottle design, I like the luxurious look that emphasizes the green ethos of the brand with its green color made from recyclable paper and plastic. The bottle features an airless pump that not only helps to apply the correct amount but also keeps the cream free from environmental bacteria.

Any drawbacks?

While it does offer some anti-aging action, if you want a moisturizer specifically to reduce signs of aging, then you should probably go with either Ernest Supplies Protective Matte or Too Cool for School. Ernest Supplies Protective Matte contains ingredients that are rich in vitamins C, A, and E, while Too Cool for School contains egg and collagen fibers.

The good:

  • Moisturizes and hydrates the skin without clogging pores
  • Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin
  • Has a smoothing, calming, and soothing effect on the skin while leaving it refreshed and revitalized
  • Contains essential vitamins, essential fatty acids, as well as essential antioxidants

Things to think about:

  • No SPF

Bottom line:

The ZELEN Life Moisturizer is a top-quality moisturizer that will keep your skin healthy and luxurious. It is an excellent mattifying moisturizer, particularly for those dealing with acne breakouts and scarring.

The best mattifying moisturizer for:

Oily and combination skin who wear makeup daily.

Notable ingredients:

Vitamin E. Shea butter. Corn starch. Apricot oil.

Overview:

Embryolisse’s Hydra Matte Emulsion is a moisturizer that is rich in vitamin E, apricot oil, corn starch, and shea butter.

Shea butter comes from the kernels of the shea tree and is made of triglycerides with oleic, stearic, linoleic, and palmitic fatty acids.[2] Apart from its hydration effect, it possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.[3] Its high levels of linoleic and oleic acid balance each other out, making it absorb quickly without leaving your skin with an oily appearance. I found that it remarkably increases the skin’s elasticity while soothing it from itchiness and redness.

Vitamin E protects from environmental stressors such as UV radiation and reduces the effects of aging due to its high antioxidant properties. It reduces wrinkles and fine lines and improves suppleness, dermal density, and skin tone. What more can you ask for?

Corn starch is an ingredient that is very beneficial to those with acne and very oily skin types. It helps absorb excess oil and reduces acne breakouts and shine levels. It is lightweight and increases the skin’s ability to absorb skincare products.

Apricot oil hydrates the skin, making it soft and more elastic. It helped to improve my skin tone while maintaining a healthy and young appearance.

Now, let’s discuss the texture and application experience.

The texture of this moisturizer is neither lightweight nor heavy. It has a balanced consistency and thickness that is easily absorbed by the skin. It doesn’t leave any greasy residue and is perfect for minimizing and balancing excess oil.

Because of its excellent oil balancing effectiveness, I found it to work very well under makeup. It makes makeup appear smooth and flawless rather than oily and greasy.

While it provides solid hydration, if you have a very dry skin type, you might find its moisturization inadequate. If that is the case, consider L’Occitane Cade Men further down on our list. It is a moisturizer that offers great hydration due to its inclusion of grapeseed oil and glycerin while also offering a matte finish after application.

As for its scent, I found it to be on the strong side. It has a perfumy, floral character that is artificially derived. If you are sensitive to strong fragrances, this is not the right moisturizer for you. Consider a moisturizer that has a subtle and naturally derived aroma, such as ZELEN Life’s Moisturizer.

Lastly, the packaging of this moisturizer is functional, however, it is simple and very basic. For its price, I would have preferred something with a more extravagant appearance.

The good:

  • Keeps face matte all-day
  • Makes my makeup last longer when used as a primer
  • Moisturizes without the shine
  • A little goes a long way

Things to think about:

  • Has a strong smell
  • Moisturization is not strong enough for dry skin types

Bottom line:

Embryolisse’s Hydra Matte Emulsion is an excellent mattifying moisturizer for someone who wants to even out their skin tone.

Unique features:

The best mattifying moisturizer for:

Men looking for a mattifying moisturizer with anti-aging properties.

Notable ingredients:

Jojoba oil. Green tea. Cupuacu. Orange.

Overview:

Ernest Supplies’ Protective Matte Moisturizer is a moisturizer designed to reduce extreme shininess from men’s skin. Its formulation includes jojoba oil, green tea, cupuacu, and orange to provide you with complete hydration.

Jojoba oil is a lightweight oil that hydrates the skin from within, balancing the amount of sebum that is responsible for greasy looks and reducing the chances of developing acne breakouts.

Cupuacu Butter is also known as Theobroma grandiflorum seed butter. It comes from the Cupuacu Tree found in the Amazonian forest in Brazil. Cupuacu can be absorbed by the skin quickly while retaining hydration, making it far better than shea butter or lanolin. Just 1 kg of Cupuacu butter can absorb 4.4 kg of water. This is what makes it such a good emollient.[4]

Green tea is a great antioxidant that is proven to have a plethora of therapeutic properties [10]. It is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial, assisting in reducing the effects of acne, excess oil, and other undesirable conditions such as rosacea, atopic dermatitis, etc.

Lastly, orange is an ingredient that is very rich in vitamin C. It is great for balancing uneven skin tone and restoring elasticity. It supports collagen production, and I found that it creates a firmer complexion with fewer wrinkles and fine lines.

I enjoyed the texture of this moisturizer as it is lightweight and easily spreadable on my skin. It absorbs very quickly and doesn’t leave any greasy residue, and I found my skin moisturized and refreshed after applying it.

The hydration lasts all day while providing a matte appearance due to its oil control formulation. Some plumpness is also noticeable right after application (to make your cheeks more irresistible for pinching!).

Additionally, you might be surprised as I was by its anti-aging effect if you use it consistently for more than three months. Aside from plumpness, I noticed my skin to be firmer, smoother, and with fewer wrinkles and fine lines.

The bottle’s pump made this moisturizer fairly easy to apply and helped me to apply the correct amount. The bottle is well made and protects the cream from environmental contamination that can aggregate acne.

But what about its scent?

Ernest Supplies Protective Matte Moisturizer has a minty scent that is balanced and not overpowering. While it is not artificially derived, I felt some tingling effect upon application from the mint.

Lastly, this moisturizer is undeniably expensive. If you are looking for one that has fairly similar anti-aging qualities and is a bit cheaper, consider Too Cool for School. It contains eggs and collagen fibers which assist in providing you with anti-aging results a little bit faster, however, it comes in a smaller container and is not vegan.

The good:

  • Anti-aging properties to restore damaged skin
  • Plant-based ingredients
  • Very hydrating
  • Great oil control

Things to think about:

  • Scent can bother those with sensitive skin

Bottom line:

Those looking for a mattifying moisturizer with anti-aging properties will enjoy Ernest Supplies’ Protective Matter Moisturizer.

Unique features:

  • Illuminating properties making the skin look luminous

The best mattifying moisturizer for:

Those looking for a mattifying moisturizer that has an excellent scent.

Notable ingredients:

Glycerin. Peony extract.

Overview:

L’Occitane’s Perfecting & Mattifying Fluid is probably the best moisturizer when it comes to its scent. Its main ingredients are peony extract and glycerin.

Paeoniflorin, found in peonies, has been demonstrated in studies to have depigmenting properties.[5]

Peony extract, blended with the astringent rebalancing capabilities of lemon extract, can satisfy the demands of oily skin. This blend regulates excess oil to promote a mattifying look. It also improves firmness and protects the skin from free radical damage.

This moisturizer is also rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, helping to treat conditions such as acne and redness while providing a soothing experience.

Glycerin is a humectant which means it increases the skin’s hydration levels while also helping to retain that hydration for a longer time. It is also an emollient that softens the skin from dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, etc.

I found the lotion to be light and not greasy. It has a great texture that can be spread easily and evenly on the skin, and it leaves your skin beautiful and smooth for the whole day without adding any unnecessary shine. It also works great under makeup, although I found Embryolisse Hydra Matte Emulsion to perform a little better in this regard.

Now, let’s discuss its scent.

I really enjoyed its aroma and think that its one of the best I’ve experienced in a moisturizer cream. Peony is known for its wonderfully sweet, rosy scent that calms the senses and fills the room. The smell is well-balanced and definitely left me wanting more throughout the day. While its scent is wonderful, I have to point out that it does contain artificial fragrance, so if you are sensitive, it is best to avoid this moisturizer.

While it does provide some anti-aging capabilities, if you have a more mature skin type and are looking for something stronger in regards to anti-aging, consider using Ernest Supplies Protective Matte or Too Cool for School on our list. Ernest Supplies contains jojoba oil, green tea, cupuacu, and orange, while Too Cool for School contains eggs, ceramides, and collagen fibers.

As for the package design, it has a pink color that is playful and looks premium quality. The cream comes in an airless tube that features a pump that protects the cream and assists in the correct dosage.

The good:

  • Floral scent
  • Can be worn with makeup
  • Skin looks free of excess sebum

Things to think about:

  • Lasts about eight hours

Bottom line:

L’Occitane’s Perfecting & Mattifying Fluid is perfect for those with combination to oily skin who are looking for an illuminating and mattifying moisturizer.

The best mattifying moisturizer for:

Oily skin with excessive sebum.

Notable ingredients:

Honesty seed oil. Peptide4 amino acids. Butterfly bush. Thyme. Mallow.

Overview:

ELEMIS Peptide4 Adaptive Day Cream is a great moisturizer for sebum control. It helps to create a flawless-looking complexion while mattifying and balancing the skin.

Its formula consists of honesty seed oil, Elemi’s Peptide⁴ amino acids, and Swiss botanical plants such as butterfly bush, thyme, and mallow. Let’s see how this combination of ingredients can benefit your skin.

Honesty seed oil is rich in fatty acids and strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier. It moisturizes the skin, improves firmness and elasticity, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a very gentle ingredient making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin types.

Butterfly bush is an evergreen shrub that possesses a vigorous antioxidant action and higher contents of total phenol and flavonoid.[6] This means that it prevents premature aging and helps with keeping the skin healthy.

Thyme and mallow work together to protect the skin against environmental elements. They are rich in anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and sebum balancing properties, reducing excess greasiness and bacteria that can clog pores and lead to acne.

Peptide⁴ is a combination of four amino acids derived from yeast extracts that assist the skin’s natural processes, resulting in a rejuvenated and nourished look.

All the above ingredients blend to create a cream that has a lightweight texture, is not sticky, and provides solid hydration. People with oily or combination skin types will find it particularly effective as it effectively balances excessive sebum production that clogs pores and leads to acne breakouts and excessive greasiness. Additionally, I found that it absorbs quickly and works well with makeup.

The jar of this cream looks premium quality. It has a purple, minimalist design that makes you feel that what you are applying to your face is of quality. While I prefer airless bottles that protect the cream from environmental contamination, I can’t ignore ELEMIS’ detailed design.

As for the scent, I like its balanced and earthy character. While the scent is not overly strong, the cream does contain a substantial amount of synthetic fragrance. While I didn’t find it to be overly perfumy, some users don’t like it. Overall, the scent is solid but it isn’t very memorable compared to L’Occitane’s Perfecting & Mattifying Fluid.

Overall, it is a great cream that works well as a makeup base and sebum control.

The good:

  • Good base for makeup
  • Controls sebum, even in T-zone
  • Rich in fatty acids to add moisture

Things to think about:

  • Can be drying for normal or dry skin types

Bottom line:

ELEMIS’ Peptide4 Adaptive Day Cream is an excellent mattifying moisturizer for oily and combination skin that provides excellent sebum control.

Unique features:

The best mattifying moisturizer for:

Combination skin with loss of elasticity.

Notable ingredients:

Collagen fibers. Eggs. Inca omega. Ceramides.

Overview:

Too Cool for School All-in-One Egg Mellow Cream is a 5-in-1 anti-aging moisturizer. It can be used as a serum, primer, neck or eye cream, toner, or sleeping mask for more hydrated, softer, and tighter skin. It is a special moisturizer, as it contains some unique ingredients that are not easily found in other creams, such as eggs, collagen fibers, Inca omega, and ceramides.

It contains a high concentration of egg yolk and egg white extracts, which provide excellent nourishment and hydration to the skin. It makes the skin more supple, elastic, and plump. Additionally, studies have shown that egg whites are also very beneficial in wound healing. [7]

Collagen fibers help to promote a younger and more elastic, mattifying look. Collagen is a protein responsible for keeping the skin healthy and stretchy. Our bodies create less collagen as we get older, causing our skin to age. That’s why this moisturizer is suitable for mature skin types. It includes collagen fibers that have been shown in clinical studies to help hydrate the skin while also improving its suppleness and collagen density.

Ceramides create a barrier on the outer layer of the skin that retains moisture and protects the skin from environmental stressors. This prevents premature aging and reduces wrinkles as the skin becomes more elastic.

It doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals such as parabens or sulfates, making it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. It is not very heavy, it glides easily, and is not sticky.

However, be aware that it is not vegan and has a somewhat strong artificial smell which some might dislike. If you prefer a vegan moisturizer that still has a lot of anti-aging properties, consider Ernest Supplies Protective Matte Moisturizer. It features a variety of natural ingredients that help reduce aging effects, such as jojoba oil, green tea, cupuacu, and orange.

If you are looking for a moisturizer that doesn’t have an artificial fragrance and has a subtle natural scent, consider ZELEN Life. It also has a variety of ingredients that offer anti-aging action, such as jojoba, calendula, and clary sage.

Lastly, I didn’t find the bottle to reflect the premium price tag of this moisturizer as it is more playful. This is not necessarily a bad thing but it is something to consider.

The good:

  • Reduces fine lines
  • Clears blemishes
  • Soothes redness

Things to think about:

  • Contains egg yolk

Bottom line:

Too Cool for School All-in-One Egg Mellow Cream, 5-in-1 Firming Moisturizer is an excellent, multi-purpose anti-aging mattifying moisturizer.

Unique features:

  • Hydrating and moisturizing
  • Soothes skin

The best mattifying moisturizer for:

Men with dry or combination skin types

Notable ingredients:

Glycerin. Grapeseed oil. Dimethicone. Oak bark.

Overview:

The Cade Complete Care Moisturizer delivers complete care for men with dry skin. It features a lot of hydrating ingredients such as glycerin, grape seed oil, dimethicone, and oak bark.

Let’s explain a bit deeper its formulation.

Glycerin is one of the most well-known ingredients in the skincare scene. It acts as a humectant, meaning it helps the skin to draw and retain its moisture longer while also making it softer and refreshed.

Grapeseed oil is rich in linoleic acid, which controls acne by reducing clogged pores. It is very very rich in vitamin E and antioxidants that hydrate the skin and minimize wrinkles as well as fine lines. Additionally, I found that it protects the skin from environmental aggressors and makes it more elastic.

Dimethicone is a silicone-based ingredient used to treat dry, rough, and scaly skin. It is an emollient that hydrates the skin, reducing flaking and itching. It forms a layer on its surface, minimizing water loss and increasing softness.

Oak bark extracts have been proven in research to have antibacterial, wound-healing, and anti-inflammatory effects.[8] It can help treat conditions such as acne, eczema, fungal infections, swelling, etc.

All of the ingredients blend into a cream with a balanced texture that is very hydrating for the skin. I found it to be thicker than other very moisturizing creams on the list, such as ZELEN Life, and Ernest Supplies Protective Matte and can take a bit of time to absorb if you overapply. At the same time, I found that it smooths the skin and can also be applied after shaving. Due to its rich hydrating qualities, I have found it to work well as a night cream.

As this is a moisturizer that is intended for men, it has a balanced, masculine, woodsy scent (women can use it as well if they don’t mind the smell). While it does contain a subtle amount of artificial fragrance, it doesn’t make the scent overpowering or perfumy, which is a plus.

But there’s more!

The jar design is beautiful. While it doesn’t protect the cream from contamination, it is premium-looking and well-made. But, this should have been expected for its very high price tag.

Undeniably, however, the cost of this moisturizer is a disadvantage. If you are looking for a moisturizer that offers great hydration at a lesser price, consider the ZELEN Life Moisturizer. It contains organic ingredients that are gentle and very moisturizing, such as jojoba oil, calendula, and clary sage.

The good:

  • Great moisturization
  • Smoothens the skin
  • Has a lot of anti-aging qualities

Things to think about:

  • Blocks pores
  • Takes time for absorption

Bottom line:

L’Occitane Cade Complete Care Moisturizer is an excellent mattifying moisturizer for men with dry skin.

How we chose these products

How did we choose our top mattifying moisturizers?

We started by looking for a matte finish. We studied each of the products and looked for formulas that would soak up the extra sebum or grease from makeup and provide an even finish.

There are various formulas on our list: a gel, creams, liquids, and even a mousse. Just to add more dimension to the texture, one of the formulas even provides a satin-matte finish. How about that?

Our list has something for every skin type. Even if you have normal or sensitive skin, you will find something if you’re looking for a matte look. Your skin type should not prevent you from using a mattifying formula.

Additionally, for makeup users looking for a primer or a base for foundation, several formulas on the list serve that purpose too.

We also looked for products that had illuminating properties for those who wanted a glow and antioxidant properties. Some of the formulas have an antibacterial action, and others have anti-aging properties.

The list covers a wide variety of problems, from reduced skin elasticity to dullness. No skin type should be ignored! We also considered formulas with different mechanisms to provide the matte effect without compromising its ability to hydrate.

Frequently asked questions

frequently asked questions

Are matte moisturizers only for oily skin?

No. This general misconception is that matte moisturizers dry up the skin and can only be used by people with oily skin. However, matte moisturizers’ primary goal is to provide moisture and hydrate the skin. They help the skin retain moisture via shea butter, hyaluronate, etc.

How do matte moisturizers work?

Matte moisturizers work by controlling sebum production in some formulas. In others, the compounds soak up the excess oil while adding moisture to the skin.

Every formula is different. However, they always work by absorbing extra oil or sebum and adding hydration to the skin.

How long does the matte effect last?

It depends on the formula and your skin type. By mid-afternoon, the sebum production peaks, with some formulations controlling sebum for a good eight hours. Others might offer shorter durations and require a touch-up. It also varies significantly from person to person, and some formulas can last all day!

Can it be used with makeup?

A mattifying moisturizer and layers of makeup can strip the skin of its moisture. However, some can serve as a primer for your foundation as you look for an even base.

How do I identify dehydration?

You will be able to tell that your skin is dehydrated when it feels too tight, it’s hard to smile or talk, and a white powder settles in your T-zone and above your upper lip. You may feel like your face is pulled and stretched.

Alternatively, you may also see excess sebum being produced in the T-zone. A shiny film of oil settles all over your face. This is a reaction by the skin in response to dehydration. Either way, these are signs that your skin is losing moisture.

What should I do if I see signs of dehydration in my skin?

Ideally, mattifying moisturizers tend to hydrate the skin. If you have dry skin, it may worsen it and when you experience this, use an oil-based face wash. This will add essential oils and fatty acids to your skin.

After this, tone and apply an oil-based moisturizer. If you see signs of dehydration every time you use a mattifying moisturizer, try another consistency like a cooling gel or a mousse. If the problem persists, it may we wise to use an emollient moisturizer.

Can acne worsen with mattifying moisturizers?

Yes and no. Mattifying moisturizers control the sebum production, and this can occasionally clog up pores.

However, many of these products also contain compounds that have antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties that will prevent any acne breakouts.

What should I do if I have an acne breakout?

If you do develop an acne breakout, discontinue the mattifying moisturizer immediately. Use an antibacterial face wash, and gently exfoliate as required.

Then change to a moisturizer that has antibacterial properties. If you develop multiple cystic lesions, make sure to visit a dermatologist!

What are the things to be careful about while using a mattifying moisturizer?

When using a mattifying moisturizer, make sure you are not exfoliating too often. This will remove the top layer and its natural oils.

Also, avoid harsh chemical peels, acids, and retinoids. These will further dry out your skin and cause an imbalance of sebum production. This imbalance can also contribute to acne.
